Fleet and Family Support Center Opens New Location on NBK Bangor

Fleet and Family Service Center (FFSC) on Naval Base Kitsap (NBK) Bangor held a ribbon cutting ceremony in honor of their new location, Jan. 24.

Navy Region Northwest Fleet and Family Support Program assists Sailors and their family members stationed in the Pacific Northwest by providing a wide range of support services that focus on the unique challenges of the military lifestyle.

“I think FFSP provides a huge asset, not only to the Sailors and their families on board the installation, but also to the commanding officers of all the commands here on base,” said Capt. Thomas Zwolfer, NBK commanding officer. “We have almost 70 commands on NBK, which is a significant number of people.

“Not only are they helping all those Sailors, but they are helping everyone in their command because they’re helping solve problems for them and it allows them to focus on their mission with the submarine or carrier,” said Zwolfer.

Britt Feldman, director of Fleet and Family Support Center (FFSC) Bangor, encourages families to come to their new facility located on NBK Bangor in building 1099.

“If you just moved here and all your household goods haven’t arrived we have hospitality kits,” said Feldman. “If you need pans, dishes, forks and knives or sleeping stuff to get you through until your household goods get here you can check that out from us. We give it out for free since our services are free.”

Services provided include individual, marriage and family counseling, class reservations, resume assistance, financial counseling and more.

There are five FFSCs in the Pacific Northwest with support centers on Naval Station Everett, Smokey Point in Marysville, Wash., Naval Air Station Whidbey Island and two on NBK Bangor.
